Sarokban álló bordaszakasz
A faragvány egy boltozat alsóbb részének rétegköve a 15. század első feléből. Érdekessége, hogy a körtetagozatos borda élén kis bekarcolt kőfaragójel látható. A jelzés alapvetően a kőfaragók elszámolását könnyítette meg.
Minden kőfaragómesternek megvolt az egyedi jele, amivel megjelölte az általa faragott darabokat – ebből következik, hogy ezek általában olyan helyeken voltak, amik beépítés után is jól látszódtak. Ugyanilyen kőfaragójelet több, ma is eredeti helyén álló faragványon is felfedezhetünk a palotában, ez alapján tudjuk ezt a darabot is Luxemburgi Zsigmond király palotaépítési munkáihoz kötni.
Egy másik típusú jelölés látható a faragvány tetején: ezt a 8-asra emlékeztető jelet elhelyezőjelnek nevezik, és a célja, hogy a faragvány helyét megjelölje az épülő szerkezetben – az egyforma jellel ellátott felületek kerültek egymásra. Ebből is következik, hogy ezek többnyire a beépítés után már nem voltak láthatóak.

Stone rib section from a corner
This carved stone is a course block from the lower part of a vault dating to the first half of the 15th century. Its noteworthy feature is a small incised mason’s mark visible along the edge of the rib with a pear profile.
Such marks primarily served to facilitate accounting among stonemasons: each master had a unique symbol with which he marked the pieces he carved — hence these signs were usually placed where they would remain visible even after installation. The same type of mason’s mark can be seen on several carvings still in their original positions within the palace, allowing us to associate this fragment with the palace-building works of King Sigismund of Luxembourg.
Another type of mark appears on the top of the carving: this symbol, resembling the number 8, is called a position mark. Its purpose was to indicate the stone’s place within the structure under construction—the surfaces with identical marks were meant to fit together. Consequently, these markings were typically not visible after the stones were built into the structure.
