The Castle Museum of the Budapest History Museum launched its 1 month, 1 artifact, 1 archaeologist series in October 2017.
The archaeologists of the museum carry out all the archaeological excavations in Budapest, including the staff of the Castle Museum the medieval researches. The tangible memories found during these will be sent to the Castle Museum.
The aim of the series is for archaeologists to introduce the beauty and importance of their profession to those who are interested, through the finds they consider the most interesting. Each of the highlighted objects chosen by them has an intriguing story attached to it, which, in addition to the history of the object, also tells about the archaeologist’s personal relationship with the object.
The 1 month, 1 artifact, 1 archaeologist series also shows the man behind the artefacts, who investigates, researches, digs, looks for the connection of the past with the present, and with his selection offers something to the attention of the visiting public that is specifically it is exciting, and in it the individual story is combined with historical knowledge supported by facts.
In May 2020, the series was renewed with the title 1 month – 1 artifact: in addition to the archaeologists of our museum, our colleagues can introduce their profession to those interested through the exciting objects they recommend, whose field is related to archeology – historians, restorers, archaeozoologists also research, they investigate the memories of the past and the connection of the past to the present.
The exhibited items are located in the former part of the medieval garden, today’s King’s Cellar.
